Skip Miller, Executive Director of Louisville International Airport, gave a brief history of the airport, or Standiford Field, as it was previously known.
Mr. Miller reported that SDF fares are down slightly, compared with other airports, and Frontier is the newest to offer air service. SDF is the seventh largest cargo airport in the world and the third largest in North America. The airport system is the largest employment center in Metro Louisville, when all businesses that serve the airport are taken into consideration. The airport continues to expand so as to accommodate newer, 21st Century aircraft. Their customer service experience is the best that it possibly can be, and new food vendors are continually coming on board. Heine Bros. Coffee is now open next to baggage claim, and new expanded parking lots are on the drawing board, as well.
The "Quieter Home Program" for homes north of the airport, continues to be a success, striving to sound insulate homes to make the home sound-proof according to FAA standards.

John Swintosky was our speaker this month.
He works for Metro Parks. He discussed the Pathway Study and how it impacts area businesses.
He focused on the plan to improve the parkways that lead to the main parks in Louisville. Southern Parkway, Eastern Parkway, and Algonquin Parkway. Each of these parkways have a plan to switch them to two main right a-ways with a turning lane in the middle. There would also be bike paths and the houses on these parkways would actually have a bridal path to turn onto and then lead to the main parkway. Therefore each house's driveway would not empty directly onto the parkway itself. This is just the plans and there is a lot to still discuss and work on.
He also discussed the "Hub" trail alignment plan. This is actual directly located in the South Central Area. The hub is where all the parkways will meet. The streets and parkways that join the parkways also have plans to make them more bike friendly.
All the information including maps can be found at Metro Parks City of Park Project
